The alternative to Brightpick is NEO ASRS.

Brightpick is doing something NEO does not: picking items out of the tote with a robot arm instead of bringing the tote to a person. That is a real capability and worth taking seriously. The trade is everything that follows from putting a gripper in the loop — a 5.5 lb ceiling on what the arm can pick, a portion of every SKU mix that falls back to a human anyway, and, on their own published figures, four to seven months from purchase order to installation.

Where Brightpick beats us

Written in earnest. If one of these is the thing your operation turns on, Brightpick may be your answer and we would rather say so now.

They take the person out of the pick, and NEO does not. A Brightpick robot grips the item out of the tote; NEO brings the bin to a station where a human picks it. If removing pickers entirely is the objective, that is a capability gap and no amount of throughput argument closes it.

Real deployed scale with published numbers: 500+ robots in the field, The Feed running 103 robots at around 70,000 items a day, and Superior Communications reporting 3,500 picks per hour across 50 robots with two to three people on the floor.

They publish their prices. $1,990 per robot per month is more transparent than almost anyone in this market, ourselves included, and you can build a model from it without a sales call.

The Autopicker fleet needs no fixed structure. Robots drive standard aisles, shelving can be reconfigured or relocated, and there is no grid to build. For a leased building you may vacate, that flexibility is worth a lot.

Lights-out operation is a genuine claim on their side, and it follows directly from robotic picking.

Where RAMS wins

Live in weeks, not most of a year

Brightpick’s own FAQ publishes four to seven months from purchase order to installation, “depending on our current manufacturing backlog,” plus three to four weeks on site. NEO typically runs 4 to 8 weeks end to end. If peak season is the deadline, that difference is the whole decision.

Their robot picks at roughly the rate of a person — by their own description

Brightpick launched Autopicker 2.0 at 70 to 80 picks per hour per robot, and framed it as matching “typical warehouse associate productivity.” Gridpicker is 100+ and pitched at up to twice a human. NEO takes the opposite route: it lifts one person to 650+ units an hour by removing the walking and searching. Both are valid engineering, but automating a task at human speed and multiplying a human by four or five are different bets.

Weight is the hard limit on the gripper approach

The arm tops out at 5.5 lb per item, with anything heavier automatically routed to a human station, and their totes cap at 50 lb. NEO carries 40 kg — 88 lb — per bin and there is no gripper in the loop to impose an item ceiling. Tools, automotive parts, small appliances and dense consumables sit on the wrong side of that line.

Not every SKU is robot-pickable, and they say so

Their own Superior Communications case study reports 73% of picks handled robotically, with the remainder going to a staffed goods-to-person station. Their AI page adds that the robot makes up to three attempts before falling back to teleoperation or a person. Model the human station you will still be staffing, not the one in the render.

The floor still matters

Brightpick markets “no special floor flatness requirements,” but their FAQ publishes 10 mm of deviation per metre, tightening to 6 mm per metre once shelving passes 3.5 m. That is a real tolerance you may have to grind for. NEO needs a flat floor and nothing else.

What you are signing

Fifteen robots is the published minimum on their Autopicker and pricing pages, at $1,990 per robot per month on a three-year minimum term, plus an implementation fee of $1,000 per robot with a $70,000 floor. That is over $1m of committed spend before the first pallet moves. NEO is scoped and priced to the operation, not to a robot count and a minimum term.

Brightpick, for your vendor diligence

  • Founded 2021 as a spin-out of Photoneo, headquartered in Austin, Texas with R&D and manufacturing in Bratislava, Slovakia.
  • Worth being precise about, because the press coverage muddles it: Zebra Technologies acquired Photoneo in early 2025, not Brightpick. Brightpick remains independent and carries none of Zebra’s balance sheet.
  • Funding: a $40M Series B completed across 2021 and 2023, then $12M in November 2024 led by EBRD Venture Capital. No round announced since.
  • Gridpicker launched March 2026. As of August 2026 their own launch release says the first installation is “scheduled for later this year,” so ask whether the system you are being shown is running anywhere yet. It is also, per their site, not available in Germany, and is sold capex-only with no RaaS option.
  • Their site does not agree with itself on several figures: uptime appears as 99.5%, 99.95% and 100% on different pages; the minimum fleet is 10 robots on the FAQ and 15 on the pricing page; the goods-to-person station is 500+ order lines an hour on one page and 600+ on another. Get whichever number matters to you in writing, with the page and date.
